History

Deutsche Kahneisen Gesellschaft was founded more than 100 years ago, moving into the first company headquarters in the heart of Berlin at the corner between Friedrichstraße / Unter den Linden.

Julius Kahn gave his name to the company and invented the so-called "Kahneisen" (which translates literally as the "Kahn-iron"), a specialised studrail for reinforced concrete. He came from one of the most prominent families of architects in the USA. In the USA in 1907, Swedish construction engineer Ivar Kreuger acquired the European rights to market the innovative reinforcement technology. Kreuger then formed the "Deutsche Kahneisen Gesellschaft Jordahl & Co." in Berlin together with his friend and fellow construction engineer Anders Jordahl.

The "Kahn-iron" became a highly successful product in the rapidly growing German market. The C-shaped anchor channel developed by Anders Jordahl in 1913 was another milestone in the history of fastening technology – and the first anchor channel ever.

This is why, throughout the ups and downs of the company’s history, we have kept the names JORDAHL® and KAHN as our product and company names.

In 1989 we moved into a new and bigger production plant in Berlin-Neukölln. Our administration department also moved to the newly constructed office building at the same time, and it remains there to this day.

In 1993 we embarked upon a successful cooperation with the company PFEIFER-Bautechnik which is based in Memmingen. The J&P Bautechnik Vertriebs-GmbH is a joint venture for the marketing and distribution of JORDAHL® and PFEIFER products. Through the development of innovative and customer-focussed solutions we have been able to continuously increase the volume of our business.

In June 2001 the company H-BAU Technik GmbH was added to the group of companies. What this means for our customers is that we can now offer direct access to one of the most comprehensive ranges of building industry products, as well as access to even more and better technical competence and service, along with access to our sales team, which provides full area coverage for our markets. The strategy is clear: "J&P – your partners in construction work" are setting new benchmarks for customer-focussed partnerships.

Today, the Deutsche Kahneisen Gesellschaft is an expanding company which globally faces customers’ demands in an open market. The process of expanding production with a state-of-the-art selection of machinery which began in 1990 and the move into a new logistics centre in 2007 on our own land south of Berlin are both a good platform for this.
